My Children Eat Unhealthy Food
Yes they do. I know this. I can’t help this.
Going to the grocery store, even without the kids with me, can be a challenge. As I am placing bulk quantities of Ore Ida Fast Food French Fries and Tony’s Cheese Pizza on the belt at checkout, sometimes I get comments about it. “That’s a lot of french fries”, is what I heard this morning. Yep it is. Then I go into my speal about how my kids are autistic and picky eaters.
I had a lady standing behind me this morning shaking her head as she is looking at the bags of french fries. Then she proceeds to tell me about a show she saw on TV about a child who ate nothing but french fries since the age of 3 and he was 19 or something, and how unhealthy it is. Here comes the judgements!
Today is not a great day for me. I’m tired and not feeling 100%. I thought for sure I would spout off something sarcastic just because I am not in the mood for judgements. I contained myself pretty good I thought and went into a short version response, autism awareness geared. I told her that eating the french fries all the time was better than my child not eating at all. Better than the alternatives, a feeding tube or starvation. I commented that it was a pick and choose your battle kind of thing. I also pointed out a positive to the situation, that the french fries are gluten free!!
After my response they were all speechless, and I paid for my items and left.
